Age Verification Policy
Age Verification Policy
The Policy
Simpson Sterling Reserve & Co operates primarily as a wholesale supplier of beer, wine and spirits to licensed and otherwise appropriately authorised trade customers. Alcohol must not be sold or supplied to any person under the age of 18, and staff must follow this policy whenever an individual places, collects, receives or otherwise takes possession of an alcohol order on behalf of a trade customer.
Before a new wholesale customer is approved, reasonable checks must be carried out to confirm the customer is a genuine business and, where applicable, holds the licences, registrations or other authority required for its activities. Orders must only be released to the customer or to a person authorised to act on its behalf.
Age Verification at Collection or Delivery
- Where an individual collecting or receiving alcohol appears to be under 21, staff must request acceptable proof of age before releasing the goods.
- The identification must confirm that the individual is 18 years of age or older. If satisfactory identification cannot be produced, the alcohol must not be handed over and the matter must be referred to a responsible person.
- The same approach applies where alcohol is ordered remotely and is later collected from, or delivered by or on behalf of, Simpson Sterling Reserve & Co.
Acceptable Proof of Age
- A photocard driving licence
- A passport
- A proof-of-age card bearing the PASS hologram, or any other identification permitted under applicable licensing requirements
Responsible Persons and Authorised Staff
For the purposes of this policy, responsibility for implementing and enforcing age-verification procedures rests with the premises licence holder, the Designated Premises Supervisor and any appropriately authorised member of staff involved in the sale, release, collection or delivery of alcohol.
Staff Awareness and Records
The premises licence holder will ensure that all staff involved in wholesale alcohol sales, order release, collections and deliveries are made aware of this policy and receive appropriate instructions. Refusals or concerns should be recorded in accordance with the company’s procedures and referred to the Designated Premises Supervisor or another responsible person.

Age Verification Policy
This policy explains the approach used by Simpson Sterling Reserve & Co. to help prevent the sale or supply of alcohol to anyone under the legal age. It forms part of our commitment to responsible trade and compliance with applicable UK licensing requirements.
1. Purpose
We will not sell or supply alcohol to anyone under 18 years of age. Where alcohol is supplied through a trade relationship, we expect the relevant customer and its representatives to meet their own legal and licensing obligations.
2. Challenge 21
Our staff may ask for proof of age from any person who appears to be under 21. If satisfactory proof is not available, the transaction will not proceed.
3. Collection and delivery
Age verification may be carried out at the point of collection or delivery where appropriate. Alcohol must not be handed over where the recipient appears underage, cannot provide acceptable identification when requested, or where there are reasonable concerns about proxy purchasing.
4. Acceptable identification
Acceptable proof of age includes a valid passport, photocard driving licence or PASS-accredited proof-of-age card. Identification must be original, current and clearly relate to the person presenting it.
5. Staff and records
Staff involved in regulated product supply are expected to understand this policy and to seek support from management where an age-verification concern arises. Relevant checks or incidents may be recorded where appropriate.
When in doubt, do not supply.
Protecting customers, staff and the business comes before completing a sale or handover.

Age Verification & Responsible Supply Policy
We are committed to operating responsibly and in accordance with UK alcohol licensing laws. Alcohol products are supplied only to legitimate, appropriately authorised businesses and customers.
Customer approval
Wholesale customers are checked first
Before approving a new wholesale customer, we take reasonable steps to confirm that the customer is a genuine business and holds the appropriate licence or authority to purchase alcohol for resale, supply or use within the licensed trade.
Where appropriate, we may request business details, licensing information or other supporting documents before supplying alcohol products.
Order collection & delivery
Orders are released only to authorised people
Alcohol orders will only be released to the customer, or to a person authorised by the customer to collect or receive the goods. Where there is any uncertainty, staff may request additional confirmation before releasing an order.
Challenge 21
Identification may be requested
Where a person collecting alcohol appears to be under the age of 21, our staff may request identification before releasing the goods.
Acceptable identification may include a valid photocard driving licence, passport, PASS card or other permitted identification.
Licence-holder responsibility
Licensed premises remain responsible
Customers purchasing alcohol for use within licensed premises are responsible for ensuring that alcohol is stored, handled and supplied in accordance with the law.
This includes the responsibility of the premises licence holder, Designated Premises Supervisor and authorised staff to ensure that alcohol is not supplied to anyone under the legal age.
Staff awareness
Concerns are recorded and referred
Our staff are instructed not to release alcohol where they believe that doing so may breach licensing laws or this policy. Any concerns or refusals may be recorded and referred to management where appropriate.
